Omaha Hi Low: General Outline
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some players can get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting collection of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, and many trying for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha Hi-Lo.
