Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi low starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many players often get baffled. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play easily enough. Since you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi lo offers an amazing collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, along with a few shooting for the low hand.
