Omaha Hi/Low: General Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha Hi-Lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in nearly every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi low offers an amazing range of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players shooting for the high, and many shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
