Omaha Hi/Lo: General Summary
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in almost every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complex at first, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi lo offers an amazing array of betting choices and because you have several players battling for the high hand, as well as several battling for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
