Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical notion in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, after a few hands you will be able to get the base nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming array of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous players trying for the high, and many battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
