Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/low starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same approach in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complex at first, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha hi/lo offers an overwhelming range of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players trying for the high hand, and a few battling for the low.
