Omaha Hi Lo: General Outline
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players can get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same concept in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems complex initially, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an exciting array of betting options and because you have many players battling for the high hand, and many battling for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
