Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in just about all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
