Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi-low starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

While it seems complicated at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several players shooting for the high, and several trying for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
